Background: Carlos was raised by a group of rebels, on the island of Cuba, on the planet
Earth.  The rebel group had split up by the time Carlos reached 15 years of
age.  In the time he was with the rebel group he was taught how to work
weapons, explosives, and to make poisons.  He was trained to kill.  After the
rebel group separated Carlos traveled to Paris, France, to meet up with a
rebel leader, who wanted Carlos to join him.  Instead of meeting the rebel he
met a Klingon, named Kah'Ra, who was fond of the human. Kah'Ra offered Carlos
a home, which he gladly accepted.  Carlos found a family at Kah'Ra's home. 
This was the first family he was proud to be apart of.  After years of
learning the Klingon ways Kah'Ra, using his ties with the Federation, got
Carlos in to the academy.
